Getting Ready for God’s Arrival …
- I am going to come to you
- The Lord will come down
- To meet with God
- Approach the LORD
UP & DOWN, UP & DOWN, UP & DOWN …
- “And the LORD said to Moses, “Go [down] to the people
- “on that day the LORD will come down
- “Be careful that you do not go up the mountain
- “the LORD descended on it in fire.
- “The LORD descended to the top of Mount Sinai
CLEANING UP …
- “They washed their clothes
- “must consecrate themselves,
- “set it apart as holy
FEAR & TREMBLING …
- Everyone in the camp trembled.
- the whole mountain trembled violently,
WARNING & LIMITS …
- “Go down and warn the people
- “Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death.
- “or the LORD will break out against them.”
- ‘Put limits around the mountain
- “the people must not force their way through to come up to the LORD, or he will break out against them.”
- GOD PREPARES (Exodus 19:10)
“Go to the people
and consecrate them today and tomorrow.”
- GOD PRESENTS (Exodus 19:11)
“Be ready by the third day, because on that day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.”
- GOD PROTECTS (Exodus 19:12)
“Put limits for the people around the mountain and tell them, Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death.”
- GOD PROVIDES (Exodus 19:13)
“Only when the ram’s horn sounds a long blast
may they go up to the mountain.”
You have not come to a mountain that can be touched
and that is burning with fire;
to darkness,
gloom
and storm …
But you have come to Mount Zion,
to the heavenly Jerusalem,
the city of the living God.
